Men's Experiences of Work With Rheumatic Diseases and Tips for Employers to Support Them

13 Mar 2024
Musculoskeletal Health

This session will cover findings from both qualitative and quantitative work with men with  rheumatoid arthritis and systemic sclerosis (both rheumatic conditions)  – with a particular focus on qualitative research. These findings will also be contextualised in relation to wider literature on men with long term conditions. The session will address the importance to men of remaining in paid work, and the impact on psychosocial wellbeing of having to stop working. This session will cover the difficulties men face in the workplace – in both physical and desk based jobs, in relation to both the jobs themselves, and interactions with colleagues and managers. This session will also provide suggestions for how employers can support men with rheumatic diseases in the workplace.
